Safety Awareness Week



We wiil be having our Safety Awareness Week 2014 from 25 to 29 August.  Be aware of dengue and its prevention methods. The aim is in line with our school’s belief of developing a caring community, especially during the current hike in dengue cases in Singapore.

 

 

HKSS Infocomm SDMA Silver Award 2014

 

The winning production titled “A Guidance Approach” is a proud production of members Nur Atikah Binte Razali (4E2), Eileen Tay (3N1), Tristine Tan (2E1) and  Seetoh Wei Tung (2E1).

 

Their video tells a story about a troubled student who was expressing his emotional turmoil through vandalism was caught by a teacher. Through the counselling and guidance of the teacher, the boy channeled his artistic talent in a positive way which helped him to achieve a bright future.

 

Through this story, the members hope to applaud the patient and nurturing spirit teachers who have always been a significant part of their school days. 

 

 

National Schools  C Division Football Semi-Finals


It was a repeat of last year’s semi-final as Hong Kah Secondary School took on traditional powerhouse, Singapore Sports School at the Toa Payoh Stadium. The stands were filled with enthusiastic Hong Kah lites, teachers and parents eager to witness the HKSS team create another piece of Hong Kah history by reaching a third consecutive national final.

Visitors from Cheng Du, China

 

On 14 July, a group of 39 students and 4 teachers from Cheng Du, China, visited our school from 7.30am to 11.15am. They had a fun and interactive morning with our students from 3E2. The programme included culture exchanges, a school tour and lesson observations. Our School Leaders, Mother Tongue teachers and 3E2 form teacher Mr Edwin You also had a good time interacting with the educators from China.

 


We are National Champions!

 

The B Division boys’ football team cruised into the finals of this year’s national schools football tournament with a convincing 2-0 win over Marsling Secondary during the semi-finals. Our supporters were out in full force to cheer the Hong Kah boys on as they faced opponents from St Patrick’s School. The supporters drummed up support for our team in a mixture of our trademark batucada percussion group, student leaders and secondary 3 students.

 

 


WSA-EC Sharing with W7 Cluster Schools

 

On 23 July 2014, our school hosted 20 key personnel from W7 cluster schools. Ms Ow, our Lead Teacher, and Mrs Yeo, our HOD EL & Literature, shared with the visitors our school’s journey for the Whole-school Approach to Effective Communication (WSA-EC).

SCIENCE FEST 2014

 

This year’s theme “Science is around us” involved a wide range of activities which included competitions, enrichment classes and special events.

 

The Sec 1 students were tasked to give “used materials” a new life through 

Upcycling Challenge while Sec 2 students used recycled materials as holders for the Egg Drop Challenge. Students from all levels were also engaged in relating their learning of Science to their immediate environment through photo competition and amazing Science race.

We celebrate the outstanding achievements of our ex-Hong Kah lites who continue the fine tradition of excelling in their tertiary education. They exemplify our school values of Discipline, Learning and Care.  They are motivated individuals  who have clear goals in their lives and strive to realise their ambitions.

 

  • Ng Ai Jing of Secondary 4A (2009) achieved a Diploma with Merit in Electronics and Computer Engineering. She also received the InnoMedia Silver Medal & Prize and Phoenix Contact Prize.
 
  • Lek Yi Yue of Secondary 4A (2009) achieved a Diploma with Merit in Logistics Management. For her outstanding achievements, she was awarded the LF Logistics Services Silver Medal & Prize.
 
  • Kristabel Khoo of Secondary 4A (2009) achieved a Diploma with Merit in Electronics and Computer Engineering. She also received the EEE Reliability/CPMT/ED Chapter (Singapore) Prize and STMicroelectronics Prize.
 
  • Lek Yi Wen of Secondary 4A (2009) achieved a Diploma with Merit in Electronics and Computer Engineering.
 
  • Richard Tey graduated with a Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management. He also achieved the NATAS Prize and Suntec Singapore Prize for excelling in his course modules.

  • Tan Yu Xuan (S4A 2008) won the Changi Golf Club Gold Medal & achieved Diploma With Merit in Resort Facilities Services and Management.

  • Gavin Wong Wei Lun (S4A 2008) won the Grundfos Silver Medal for Diploma in Chemical Engineering.

Dzul  Khairi Ng , from Secondary 4A (2008), has received the distinguished honour of Nanyang Polytechnic’s commendation for achieving top grades for his course of study in Sport & Wellness Management. He has been included in the Director’s List which was introduced to highlight students’ achievements and knowledge, reflecting students’ dedication and discipline in their course of study.
